Diwali, the illuminating festival is commonly celebrated by lighting of oil lamps called diyas, candles and lanterns. It is that time of the year when all the families get together, exchange hugs, wishes, presents, and sweets, and have loads of fun. Though the preparation start prior to the date. New clothes, presents for relatives, sweets and decors like paper lanterns, string lights, series lights, diyas, candles et cetera. Some homemakers make it a point to change their curtains, for the festivals, to be precise; homes are lit up with excitement, positive vibe and happiness.

There are a bagful of myths behind the festival of lights. For some Diwali is to celebrate the return of Shri Rama to his kingdom after his exile. Some believe it to have it in the honor of return of the Pandavas after 12 years of banvas and another 1 year of agyatvas. For some it is the goddess Laxmi’s day and some celebrate it as the kali puja.
But, have you ever felt your phone has gained some pounds?! I have! Phone get flooded with wishes and messages from friends, family, younger and elders . Though greetings and presents make their way to us, but those messages are special in their own way. Especially from the ones you never expected a message from. Yes, it is Diwali, even if you are not in talking terms with someone, you get together and wish them, with pure feelings. We all have some friends who send us advance wishes just because the network operators charge on Diwali. From among the common “Happy Diwali” texts, some texts are unusual and actually sweet. This Diwali, I got few really cool messages I would love to share with you guys. My favorite and the one that tops my list reads, “denied laughter and smiles for days, they know what not it is to enjoy, can you not share what something you have, can you not bring them a little joy. Happy Diwali!” Yes, we can! Rather we should! After all, khusiyan baatne se badhti hai! Another message on the second, goes like this, “when you can make someone smile, when you can be someone’s ally, that’s when you can yourself be glad, that’s when you’ will have a Happy Diwali!” This was a message from someone I was no longer talking to. I could feel a curve on my lips.
Those tiny little series lights hung, diyas and candles lit, paper lanterns hung as centerpieces add glamour to the moonless night. Beautiful colorful rangolis generally are on the pathways welcoming the guests. Thali is all set for the puja, and then it is the time, to burst the crackers. The time at least I eagerly wait for. The elders prefer to sit and enjoy the sight whereas the women of the house turn into BBC news and men get engrossed in gambling (though a ritual). The young’s are ready with the firecrackers. The chaos and the charisma of the festival itself has its own aura, may be that is the reason we wait the whole year for the festival of lights.
Keep it safe.
